Start with the headline, because it’s the reason most people search: BetMGM has no welcome bonus in New York. Its national sign-up offers carry fine print excluding New York, and BetMGM’s own NY promotions page lists only rewards enrolment.
Any BetMGM code you find online, including the old “up to $1,500” codes, does nothing for a New York account.

BetMGM NY welcome bonus: no welcome bonus in NY right now
BetMGM went live in New York on January 17, 2022, nine days after the first wave of books. In other states it still advertises a large first-bet offer. In New York there’s nothing to claim at sign-up.
BetMGM hasn’t explained why New York is excluded. The state’s 51% tax on sportsbook revenue, among the highest in the country, is the backdrop for every operator’s promo budget here.

Should you still open a BetMGM account?
For many New Yorkers, yes, as a second or third account. Nothing stops you holding several NY sportsbook accounts, and comparing prices across books is the cheapest edge in betting. A line of -105 at one book against -115 at another changes the payout on every bet you place.

State betting limits at BetMGM

The NYSGC is also reviewing player props and same-game parlays. Its chair said in March 2026 the commission “could consider banning proposition bets entirely.” No ban has been adopted.
BetMGM’s app: 4.8 on iPhone, 4.2 on Android
The BetMGM app rates 4.8 on the US App Store from 261,000 ratings. Android users are less impressed: it scores 4.2, the lowest of New York’s big four books. FanDuel, DraftKings and Caesars all score 4.6 there.
The gap matters if you bet on an Android phone. The iOS score comes from a far smaller base than FanDuel’s 2.3 million ratings, too, so treat the 4.8 as a good sign rather than proof of parity.
Live betting covers all major US leagues, with cash out on many in-play bets. Live streaming runs on select events inside the app.

BetMGM’s deposit menu is one of the widest in New York, starting at $10:

BetMGM Rewards: the real reason to bet here
BetMGM Rewards is the one area where BetMGM beats the leaders. Its five tiers are the same as MGM Rewards, and online and in-person Tier Credits count toward the same status:

Sports bets earn at least 20 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 on straight bets and at least 50 per $100 on parlays, with more for longer odds. Each point also adds a Tier Credit. Pearl members earn 10% faster, Gold 20% and Platinum 30%.
Put numbers on it. At the baseline rate, $1,000 in straight bets earns 200 points and 200 Tier Credits. Reaching Pearl (20,000 Tier Credits) on sports alone would take about $100,000 in straight bets, or $40,000 in parlays, in one calendar year. Most bettors will get there faster by combining sports with hotel stays and dining at MGM properties.
Points redeem for bonus bets or for MGM Resorts experiences. MGM owns Empire City Casino in Yonkers, so New Yorkers have an MGM property close to home. Tier status runs on the calendar year and resets each January 1.
Why Fanatics now out-handles BetMGM in New York

BetMGM ranked fourth in New York by 2025 handle, behind FanDuel ($9.44B), DraftKings ($9.21B) and Fanatics ($2.62B). Its $1.92 billion was about a fifth of what either leader took.
In August 2026, Fanatics took $213.2M in New York bets to BetMGM’s $119.9M. A book without a sign-up offer struggles to win new customers, and the numbers show it. At the 51% tax rate, BetMGM’s 2025 revenue meant roughly $77 million for the state.
The Fanatics comparison stings. Fanatics only arrived in New York in February 2024, taking over the PointsBet business, yet it out-handled BetMGM in 2025 and again in August 2026. BetMGM’s August 2026 GGR share (7.5%) ran ahead of its handle share (6.9%), so it kept a healthy margin on the bets it did take; the problem is volume.

Who beats BetMGM: DraftKings and Caesars compared
DraftKings turns one $5 bet into $200 in bonus bets and runs its own five-tier Dynasty Rewards program. For a new account, it beats BetMGM outright.
