New York is the largest regulated online sports betting market in the US. You can bet on all major professional and collegiate sports, though betting on in-state NY colleges (e.g., Syracuse basketball) remains prohibited.

Online horse betting is fully authorized and operates separately from sports betting regulations.
Authorized Operators:Traditional salary-cap DFS contests are legal. However, NY has cracked down on ‘Pick’em’ style fantasy games which resemble sports betting prop bets.
Authorized Operators:- PrizePicks: Pick’em banned. Shifted to free-to-play model in NY.
- Underdog Fantasy: Pick’em banned. Paid $17.5M fine. Only ‘Champions’ peer-to-peer drafts available.
The most volatile vertical in 2026. While some apps are federally regulated by the CFTC, New York state lawmakers view them as unlicensed gambling.
