What’s New in NY Sports Betting for 2025

Nothing new is expected for NY mobile sports betting in 2025 because state law caps the number of sportsbook licenses at nine and the legislature has not shown any interest in increasing the number of available licenses. Since there are currently nine sportsbooks operating in the state, the only way a new one can open up is if an existing one shuts down. We did see this in 2024 when WynnBET sold its license to PENN Entertainment, which used it to launch ESPN BET. We don’t expect something similar in 2025, though there is a slight chance that something surprising will happen. 

Three Retail Sportsbooks To Be Announced in 2025

We expect to see a few significant developments on the retail sportsbook side. Up to three downstate New York licenses are up for grabs, and many of the biggest casino companies are angling to try and enter the hugely lucrative New York City market. Wynn Resorts wants to build a casino at Hudson Yards in Manhattan, while Caesars has proposed a $4 billion casino complex in Times Square of all places. We won’t see any new casinos open for a few years, but we might see groundbreaking ceremonies after the winning bids are selected sometime in the second half of 2025. 

It’s our expectation that all three new casinos will also include amazing, state-of-the-art sportsbooks with dazzling video screens featuring technology that hasn’t even been invented yet. At least that’s our hope, anyway. This page will be updated when the winning casino bids are announced.
