About
Monticello Raceway is a harness racing track in Monticello, Sullivan County New York, approximately 85 miles northwest of New York City. The racetrack is nicknamed “The Mighty M” and conducts standardbred horse racing during the afternoons year-round. The racetrack is a half-mile oval. The track opened on June 27, 1958 with the objective of attracting more people to Monticello’s resort area.
Monticello Raceway is owned by Empire Resorts. The company also operates the nearby Resorts World Catskills casino. The track previously housed VLTs and was known as Monticello Casino & Raceway. On April 23, 2019, the casino portion of Monticello Raceway was discontinued so that Empire Resorts could consolidate the gaming element of their operation entirely at Resorts World Catskills.
Resorts World Catskills, located just four miles from Monticello Raceway, offers a huge selection of 1,600 cutting-edge slot machines, including popular titles such as Wheel of Fortune, Aristocrat Lightning Link, Monopoly Millionaire and Dragon Luck. There are coin combo games and a high limit area and it’s open 24/7.

The 18-storey all-suite main hotel features 332 luxury suites, including 27 premium accommodations consisting of garden suites, penthouse suites and two-story villas. The integrated casino resort destination also includes The Alder, an adjacent 101-room lifestyle hotel featuring Dos Gatos Mexican Cantina and New York state’s first Topgolf Swing Suites, a golf and virtual sports simulator with food and bar service available. The Kartrite Hotel and Indoor Waterpark opened in April 2019 and planned for 2021, a Rees Jones-redesigned golf course will be added to this destination resort.
The casino resort destination also offers more than a dozen varied bar and restaurant experiences, which includes Cellaio Steak, an Italian steakhouse created by celebrity chef Scott Conant.
Resorts World Catskills showcases world-class musical talent and comedians from around the country, offering year-round live entertainment in their 27,000 square foot 2,500-seat RW Epicenter, while also supporting the local Hudson Valley music scene in their casino bars and lounges.
Licence
Monticello Raceway is licenced by the Schenectady-based New York State Gaming Commission.
Major Horse Betting Events at the Venue
At the Monticello Raceway, bettors can watch and wager on the horses at five days a week all throughout the year. The year-round live racing schedule operates from January 4 through December 30 with 223 race dates per year.
Beyond the live racing product, Monticello Raceway also offers simulcast wagering from standardbred and thoroughbred tracks across North America.
New York Sires Stakes racing for two and three-year-old colt and filly pacers and trotters are contested regularly at Monticello Raceway. As well, Monticello Raceway has played host to the New York Sire Stakes County Fair Finals, which features eight divisions, with each final dash worth $10,000.
Monticello Raceway’s races can be viewed on demand through the Racing Television Network. These races can be watched on a desktop or laptop computer, as well as a mobile device.
Monticello Raceway’s simulcasting signal is offered in high definition (HD). Monticello’s racing has been a mainstay in the industry and across simulcasting parlors for decades. Their signal is sent to over 500 sites, including many International locations such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Germany, South America and South Africa.
Bet Types Allowed
Types of wagers offered at Monticello Raceway include win (horse to finish first), place (horse to finish first or second), show (horse to finish first, second, or third), across the board (full wagering on a horse to finish in first, second or third. A $2 across the board wager would cost a bettor $6).
Exotic bets include exacta (picking two horses to finish first and second in that order), trifecta (picking three horses to finish first, second and third in that order), the daily double (picking the winners of two successive designated races), pick three (correctly selecting the winners of three successive designated races), pick four (correctly selecting the winners of four successive designated races) and pick five (correctly selecting the winners of five successive designated races).
Horses can be boxed or wheeled in any type of exotic wagering. When boxing horses, a bettor is enabling a ticket to cash as a winner no matter the order of finish of the horses that are part of the box. In the case of wheeling, one horse is keyed in a specific order of finish and the remaining horses in the bet are wheeled around that horse.
