September was a rough month to be a bookmaker in New Jersey.

Bettors put $318.8 million on football, and the books held on to just 1.3% of it. A year earlier they kept 4.8%. Somewhere between MetLife on Sundays and the rest of the slate, bettors came out ahead.

The damage shows in the totals. NJ sports wagering revenue fell 14.3% to $77.0 million on $1.09 billion in handle. The online casino side of the state is booming; the sportsbooks just paid out.

One hot month doesn’t change the math over a season, though. Odds margins, promo terms and how an app handles a live bet on a Tuesday night decide who comes out ahead. That’s what we graded.

How we graded New Jersey betting apps

Online sports betting has been legal here since June 2018, after the US Supreme Court’s Murphy v. NCAA ruling the month before. Every app below is licensed by the Division of Gaming Enforcement and tied to an Atlantic City casino.

We looked at:

  • Market depth: how many bets you get per game
  • Pricing: the margin baked into the odds
  • Promo mechanics: odds limits, expiry and real payout value
  • The app itself: speed, features and App Store scores
  • Cashing out: payout speed and options

Our featured scores: Hard Rock Bet 7.6/10, Betinia 5.8/10.

Featured NJ sports betting sites

Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook: 7.6/10

Hard Rock Bet’s Seminole Hard Rock Digital platform went live in New Jersey in August 2023, and the sportsbook shares one account and wallet with the casino.

How the promo works: Bet $5, get $500 in No Sweat Bets. Deposit $5, place a first bet of $5 or more at -500 or longer, and you’re in. Then you get ten No Sweat tokens, one a day for ten days. Each day’s first bet is your No Sweat Bet: if it loses, the stake comes back as a bonus bet up to $50. Tokens expire at midnight and can’t be stockpiled. No Promo Code needed.

Markets and features: Flex Parlays are the standout. A leg can lose and the ticket still pays at reduced odds. Overdrive serves personalized boosts, and same-game parlays cover the big games. The weak spot is depth: the menu is thinner than FanDuel’s or DraftKings’.

The app: 4.9 on iOS from 357,000 ratings, the highest score of any app we rate. There’s also a retail sportsbook at Hard Rock AC if you’d rather bet at a window.

Payouts: Instant bank transfer, often with instant withdrawals, or cash at the Hard Rock AC cage. Expect ID checks on your first withdrawal.

Every term is laid out on our Hard Rock Bet NJ promo page.

Betinia Sportsbook: 5.8/10

Betinia is Soft2Bet’s first US brand. Jersix LLC runs it in NJ in partnership with Caesars Atlantic City.

How the promo works: You pick one welcome offer at sign-up, no Promo Code. The sports option is up to $250 in No Sweat Bets plus 100 Bonus Spins. You get five No Sweat tokens. Each covers one $20+ bet at -150 or longer, and a loser comes back as a Bonus Bet up to $50. Tokens expire 24 hours after they’re credited, and the Bonus Bets last seven days. The 100 spins arrive 50 a day over two days, with 30x on winnings.

Markets: Huge, on paper. Our October 22, 2026 check counted 115,149 soccer markets, 14,901 football, 8,297 hockey and 3,526 basketball. Marquee NBA games carry 327+ wagers each.

Betinia sportsbook NJ NBA odds board with spreads, moneylines and totals

The app: Same Game Parlays, live betting, cash out and profit boost tokens. The iOS app only shipped in May 2026 and rates 4.2 from 504 ratings.

Payouts: Visa, Mastercard or the Caesars AC cage. Withdrawals are reviewed for up to three business days, and payout complaints drag its Trustpilot score to 2.6.

No Sweat Bets, explained

A No Sweat Bet is a refund with conditions. If the bet loses, you get the stake back, but as a bonus bet, not cash. Win, and you keep the winnings like any other bet.

Hard Rock and Betinia both use tokens, but they’re built differently.

Hard Rock Bet: 10 tokens, up to $50 each. Say you bet $50 on the first game of every day for ten days and lose four. You get $200 back in bonus bets. The catch is discipline: the token only covers your first bet each day and dies at midnight, so a busy weekend can’t make up for a skipped Wednesday.

Betinia: 5 tokens, up to $50 each. Bet $50 five times at -150 or longer and lose two, and you get $100 back in Bonus Bets. Each token needs a $20+ stake, expires 24 hours after it’s credited, and the Bonus Bets themselves last seven days.

Our take: Hard Rock’s version is worth up to twice as much and costs less to trigger. Betinia’s suits someone who bets a few times a week rather than every day.

Best odds by market in New Jersey

Promos are a one-time thing. The margin, the cut the book builds into every price, follows you all season.

Betinia’s NBA spreads and totals came in around 4.7% in our check, in line with its 4.75% ten-market average.

By sport, that sample showed:

  • NHL: 3.94%, the sharpest pricing on the board
  • NFL: 5.64%, the most expensive

So at Betinia, hockey bettors get the better deal and football bettors pay more for the privilege. Shop lines across two or three apps before big NFL Sundays.

The NJ college betting rule

New Jersey bans betting on its own college teams. That means no wagers on Rutgers, Seton Hall, Princeton, Monmouth or any other NJ school, and no bets on college games played in the state, whoever is playing. Every other college game is fair game.
