If you find Wordle to be too easy to solve, Quordle takes the challenge of Wordle and ups it four fold. A single-player word game, Quordle is essentially Wordle on steroids. Instead of solving the standard one Wordle puzzle in six moves, with Quordle, you’re given four Wordle puzzles and nine chances to correctly complete all four grids.
One new Quordle puzzle appears every day for you to seek the solution.
Freddie Meyer is the developer and publisher of Quordle. Meyer and David Mah are the programmers of the word game. Critics of the game have labeled Quordle everything from genius to evil.
History of Quordle
Originally, the prototype for Quordle was created and later developed by software engineer Mah. However, it was Meyer who would take friend Mah’s original idea and modify the code to come up with the current version of Quordle. Meyer had been a frequent player of Dordle, which requires you to simultaneously solve two Wordles, and wanted to increase the challenge aspect with Quordle.
Quordle was released to the public in February of 2022. Within a matter of weeks, it was being played by more than one million people, of which about 500,000 were regular players.
It was in January of 2023 that Merriam-Webster would acquire Quordle for an undisclosed sum of money, adding it to the games empire consisting of many language-based games operated by the venerable dictionary-making firm that’s been around for nearly 200 years.
How To Play Quordle
Quordle is among a number of online free to play games that are offshoots of the hugely popular Wordle game. The creators of Quordle took Dordle, a game that requires you to solve two World puzzles at the same time, and doubled down again. With Quordle, you’re going to have to simultaneously solve four Wordle puzzles to win the game.
While playing Quordle, you’ll be following many of the same rules as when you play Wordle. With each turn, you are seeking to decipher the hidden five-letter word. As with Wordle, every correctly-placed letter in a guess changes to the color green. A letter turning yellow is indicating that while the letter is in the word, at current it is incorrectly placed. A gray letter means that it is not part of the day’s word.
When you make a guess at the word, that guess appears at the same time in all four of the day’s Quordle puzzles.
The Quordle grid consists of nine rows of five empty spaces. A keyboard featuring the 26 letters of the alphabet appears underneath the grid.
Quordle offers several versions of their game, each on a daily basis. Playing Classic Quordle enables you to enjoy the original daily Quordle with nine guesses. Chill is a less demanding version of Quordle. With this version, you’ll be given 12 guesses to solve the puzzle and fewer unusual words. Then there’s Extreme Quordle. With this mode, you challenge yourself, tangling with more unusual words and getting just eight guesses with which to reveal the day’s four words and solve the puzzle.
There’s also Sequence Quordle, which is similar to the original Quordle game with the following changes. Only one unsolved word is made visible at a time. Once you solve a word, the next board will be unlocked. And you’ll be given 10 guesses with this version of Quordle, instead of the standard nine guesses.
If you become a member of the exceptional elite of Quordle players by successfully solving at least one puzzle per week, you’ll be unlocking the Weekly Challenge game of Quordle.
No matter which version of Quordle you’re opting to play, if you fail in your nine attempts to completely solve all four words in the day’s Quordle game, the correct answers will appear to you once you have completed all of your turns.

Strategies For Quordle
There are several strategies that can aid your Quordle game play. Here’s a few of the more popular strategic modes.
Often, five-letter words will have letters that repeat in sequence in the word. Happy, funny and buggy are examples of this pattern. So don’t be afraid to try the same letter in succession if you’ve already got one of those letters correctly placed in the word.
Also remember that there are words in which certain letters are silent when pronouncing the word. Knight and psych are two such words. It’s also a rarity for a five-letter word to end in “ing,” “ed,” “r,” or “er.” Keep that in mind when solving the puzzle.
Here are some other popular Quordle strategic moves. For starters, set out on your process by focusing on words that tend to begin with common letters. Combinations to keep in mind are ch (chant, chair, chalk) , th (thing, theme, theft) and sh (short, shine, sharp).
The process of elimination is another valuable strategic tool. Track the letters that you choose that aren’t part of the word. It should help to narrow your search.
You know how when you wrote exams you’d start with the easy question to build your confidence? Do the same with Quordle. Save the hardest word for last. Don’t get stumped chasing one word. If you can’t figure it out, move to the others and come back to the tough one last.
If you’re struggling with the day’s Quordle, don’t be afraid to turn to the Quordle community help for a confidence boost.
