A downtown casino built on Seneca land

Seneca Buffalo Creek sits in Buffalo’s Inner Harbor, steps from KeyBank Center, Canalside and Sahlen Field. The name nods to the Seneca Nation’s original Buffalo Creek Territory, which once covered the land around today’s 9-acre site.

It started in July 2007 as a slots-only building. The permanent 64,000-square-foot casino opened on Aug. 27, 2013, according to Casino Enterprise Management.

Over 1,000 slots and 8 table games, but no poker

The casino says it runs “over 1,001 slot games.” Denominations go from 1 cent to $25, and a slot ticket expires after 180 days, so cash it before you leave.

The table game menu, according to the casino’s FAQ:

  • Blackjack and Spanish 21
  • Craps and roulette
  • Mini-baccarat
  • Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em and Mississippi Stud

There is no live poker room.

Betting at Buffalo Creek: Sports Lounge, BYOB and #BETONBUFFALO

Seneca opened retail sportsbooks at its three casinos in late 2019, two years before New York’s mobile apps went live. Plan around the hours:

Sports LoungeHours
Self-service kiosks24/7
Betting counterMon–Sat 10 a.m.–10 p.m., Sun 10 a.m.–8 p.m.
Cashier’s Cage (cash winning tickets)24/7

The rules: $1 minimum bet, cash only, parlays up to 12 legs at a kiosk or 9 at the counter. Horse racing isn’t offered. Under New York law, you can’t bet on New York college teams.

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bet) is Seneca’s workaround for the lack of an app. Scan the QR code, build your bet on your phone, and the site generates a QR code for that ticket. A Sports Lounge writer scans it at the counter and you pay cash. #BETONBUFFALO is the lounge’s push on Buffalo’s pro football, hockey and lacrosse teams.

Can you use mobile betting apps at Seneca Buffalo Creek?

No. Seneca’s own sportsbook page says mobile betting is not available at the property. State-licensed apps such as FanDuel and DraftKings also block tribal land. The sponsor memo for Senate bill S10470 notes that mobile platforms already use geofencing to block “tribal jurisdictions.” Walk off the Seneca site into downtown Buffalo and the apps work again for anyone 21+ in New York. Compare them in our best NY sportsbooks guide.

No hotel downtown: where to stay near Buffalo Creek

Buffalo Creek has no hotel or spa; the casino lists nearby downtown hotels on its site. The closest Seneca rooms are at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, about 20 miles north, with 604 rooms and a spa.

Social Club tiers and Buffalo Creek promotions

Play is tracked on the Social Club by Seneca card, which works at all three Seneca casinos. Each point played earns 1 Tier Credit and 1 Player Point. Tiers are set over a 12-month qualifying period:

Pro750
Advantage2,000

Player Points can be spent at outlets or turned into slot play, and members can request a win/loss statement for tax time.

Parking on Sabres nights and every other day

Parking is free on non-event days. When the Sabres or a big downtown event is on, free spaces are limited to Player, Pro and Advantage cardholders, Seneca Nation members and vehicles with a disabled placard. There is no valet.

The casino is off I-190, a short walk from the arena. Cashier windows exchange Canadian dollars.

What’s new at Seneca in 2025–2026

Seneca Gaming calls its $47 million Seneca Niagara room renovation, announced in August 2026, part of a reinvestment across all three casinos, Buffalo Creek included, according to Buffalo Toronto Public Media.

The bigger story is the unresolved Seneca gaming compact with New York State. In October 2026, Seneca said there was an agreement in principle with no revenue sharing. Gov. Kathy Hochul said “there is no agreement and negotiations are ongoing,” according to Spectrum News. The casinos stay open in the meantime.
