Super Bowl Odds In a New York State Of Mind?

Oddsmakers are of the opinion that the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which the NFL presents annually to the Super Bowl champions, will be heading to the Empire State this season. However, recent form charts are suggesting that there might be more than one team from New York worthy of consideration.

Who is the Favorite

Since online sportsbooks in New York state first opened their future book wagering on this season’s Super Bowl, the Buffalo Bills have reigned as the team to beat. Currently the Bills, leaders in the AFC East, are holding forth as +275 Super Bowl favorites at BetMGM Sportsbook

Certainly, there’s a lot to like about the Bills. At quarterback, Josh Allen is also situated as the chalk to earn NFL MVP honors this season. Buffalo’s offense is loaded with weapons and the Bills defense is playing solidly despite an early-season rash of injuries. Buffalo has never won the Super Bowl, but the Bills do hold the record of losing four Super Bowl games in a row.

What about New York Jets and New York Giants

No one had the New York Jets pegged as a Super Bowl contender this season. Including the Bills, who were stunned 20-17 by the Jets in a Week 9 matchup at MetLife Stadium. After that upset win, the Jets were sitting a half-game off of Buffalo’s divisional lead.

The Jets have already surpassed the season win total assigned to them by mobile sports betting apps. Second-year QB Zach Wilson missed four weeks to start the season with a knee injury, but is playing solidly since returning. Defensive back Sauce Gardner is the favorite to win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

You have to go all the way back to Super Bowl III in 1969 to find a Super Bowl game involving the Jets. That year, Jets QB Joe Namath guaranteed a victory and then delivered via a 16-7 win over the Baltimore Colts.

Surprisingly, the New York Giants have also played themselves into Super Bowl contention. Three times since that season, the Giants have rallied from double-digits deficits on the scoreboard for victory. Running back Saquon Barkley is enjoying an impressive bounce back campaign following a couple years of injury problems.

The Giants are New York’s most prolific Super Bowl team. They’ve played in the big game five times, winning four of them, the most recent in 2011. But in each of the previous five seasons, they’ve lost a minimum of 10 games.

So, while it’s entirely possible that a New York team is winning this season’s Super Bowl, it’s also possible that it might not be the New York team everyone expected it to be.
