No U.S.-based team sports league has contested its championship longer than Major League Baseball’s World Series. Since 1903, the Fall Classic has pitted the American League champions against the National League champions to determine the best of baseball in a best-of-seven playoff series
For decades, the World Series was also unique in that the major leagues – the AL and the NL – did not face each other in regular-season play. That uniqueness ended in 1997, when MLB introduced regular season inter-league play.
World Series Betting Options
The World Series betting opportunities begin with the World Series future book. Almost immediately following the conclusion of the previous year’s season, the opening MLB World Series odds will be posted by online sportsbooks. These odds will be caused to fluctuate throughout the offseason and through the regular season and playoffs by events occurring in the baseball world.
Bettors can also play wagers on which teams will win the AL and NL pennants, and division titles. There’s also betting markets offered on team win totals and yes or no wagers on whether a baseball club will make the playoffs.
During the actual World Series, there are moneyline, runline and total options offered on each game. As well, player and team props and same game parlays will be available. Other wagers such as exact series outcomes and total games required to determine a winner will be offered.

New York’s World Series Legacy
As mentioned, the Yankees are the winningest World Series franchise. The three most frequent World Series matchups are the Yankees vs the Los Angeles Dodgers (11 times), the Yankees vs the Cardinals (seven times) and the Yankees vs the San Francisco Giants (five times).
The Bronx Bombers won four World Series in a row from 1936-39 and five in succession from 1949-54. Between 1920-2010, the Yankees won at least one World Series every decade.
However, New York’s World Series history doesn’t end with the Yanks. Prior to relocating to Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Brooklyn Dodgers (nine) and New York Giants (14) appeared in multiple World Series. Brooklyn won the 1955 World Series, while the New York Giants were World Series champions on five occasions.
The New York Mets have also appeared in five World Series, winning in 1969 and 1986. Their 1969 triumph was the first ever by an MLB expansion team.
There have been 14 all-New York World Series. The first pitted the Yankees against the victorious Giants in 1921. The most recent was when the Yankees beat the Mets in the so-called Subway Series in 2000.
