The annual series to determine the NBA Championship is known as the NBA Finals. It’s a best-of-seven set which sees the winners of the NBA’s Eastern and Western Conferences clashing for the honor of hoisting aloft the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
The first two games are played at the home stadium of the team with the better regular-season record. Then the next two games are held in the other team’s stadium. The final three games are played on an alternating basis, with the club holding the better record serving as home team for Games 5 and 7.

New York’s NBA Championship Legacy
Little-known fact, the first NBA game was played in Canada and it was won by the New York Knicks. The Knicks beat the Toronto Huskies 68-66 on November 1, 1946.
However, the Knicks wouldn’t win an NBA Championship until 1970. They played and lost in three straight finals from 1951-53 and wouldn’t contest the NBA Championship again until their 1970 triumph over the Lakers. The Knicks would win a further title in 1973. They also lost in the NBA Finals in 1972, 1994 and 1999. That 1999 setback to the San Antonio Spurs is the most recent appearance by a New York-based team in the NBA Championship.
Currently the Brooklyn Nets, the franchise contested back-to-back losing efforts in the NBA Finals of 2002 and 2003 as the New Jersey Nets.
