While it might not hold a similar tradition as the Triple Crown races of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes or Belmont Stakes, the fact of the matter is that the Breeders’ Cup races are considered the annual world championship events for thoroughbred race horses.
Unlike the Triple Crown races which are attached to a specific track, the Breeders’ Cup is contested at different tracks each year around North America. It’s even been held in Canada at Woodbine Racecourse. Also unlike the Triple Crown races, which are only open to three-year-olds, there are several Breeders’ Cup events that can be entered multiple times by the same horse.
First launched in 1984, today, the Breeders’ Cup events have grown to such a size and popularity that the races are now contested over two days.
In 2023 the Breeders’ Cup will be held at Santa Anita Park on November 3-4. In New York you can place online bets via several top sportsbook apps liek Twinspires (best odds). Claim free bets and other promotions, including special deals for straight bets.
Breeders’ Cup Betting 2023 in New York
When it comes time to bet on Breeder’s Cup horse racing, it all starts with the straight bets of win, place and show. A win bet doesn’t require explanation. It’s a wager on a horse to win the race.
When betting a horse to place, that means the wager will cash if the horse wins or finishes second in the race. Show betting pays out should the horse wagered on finish in any spot among the top three in the race.
There are also exotic betting options. Included in these bets is an across the board wager. With this play, a horse pays off on all win, place and show wagers. Thus, should the horse win the race, the bettor would cash on the win, place and show wagers.
Exactas during Breeder’s Cup put together two horses to run 1-2 in the race. Trifectas are wagers in which the horses selected must finish 1-2-3. Superfectas up the ante to pick the horses that will finish the race 1-2-3-4. They must finish in the exact order as selected on the bet ticket. However, each of these wagers can be wheeled, boxed, or keyed to allow multiple possibilities in the order of finish.
